Okay, okay, okay, okay! Guys, listen!
My friend Camille is hosting a linkup and I'm excited to join in on the fun. All I have to do (and you are invited to come join the fun too) is list a couple things that you are LOVING for the month, link up to the original blogger, and invite a friend or two to join in on the fun.
Okay, so AUGUST.
August is a crazy/messy/busy/chaotic/bewildering/fascinating time of year for us in our line of work. Students are returning and wanting to re-connect, we're neck deep in planning events for the first several weeks, and did I mention that all these events set the tone for the rest of the academic year? Oh and that I am going to dip my toes in the homeschooling waters for the first.time.ever? Yeah. No pressure right? There's loads of it! Tons of it! Don't pretend for a minute it is a walk in the park unless you mean AMUSEMENT PARK because that's totally what we're proverbially riding here.
Anyway, in midst of all these reallyeasytooverwhelmmeevents coming up, this link up is a great excuse to take a break and recall the reasons why, really, I love this lifestyle. So, without further ado....
Things I'm Loving:
1) Four year old and two year old siblings.
Clay and Celia are officially playmates, entertaining each other for significant chunks of time during the day. Listening to their play plot lines also provides plenty of entertainment for me too. Example? "You are making a cake? Okay, I'll make cake syrup to go with it...and a pickle!"
2) InterVarsity Workday
In June I became an official volunteer with InterVarsity at Berea College. You can find out more about InterVarsity here. Jess has tasked me with reaching out to people in our networks to support our work. So, one day a week, he stays home with the kids and I get to wear business casual clothing, drive to campus, and write letters, emails, make phone calls and meet with people for lunch or coffee to talk about life, God's Kingdom, and where we fit. It's nice to see tasks to completion (write a letter. send it. done!) AND make new friends. I come home refreshed and ready to be Mommy again....where some tasks will never be finished. Ever.
3) Creek Time
I recently discovered that this is a thing. People actually get INTO the water and do things. So, since I have a little scientist and animal lover on my hands, we make our way to the creek at least once a week for a picnic and crawdad hunt. I like feeling like I am giving Clay and Celia the kind of childhood full of Tom Sawyer-esque adventures.
4) STRANGER THINGS
Get on Netflix right now and put this on your instant cue. I haven't been so wrapped up in a show since LOST or Downton Abbey.
5) Ambleside Moms
This is a book discussion centered on books by educator Charlotte Mason. The literature is informative and convicting, with equally helpful (maybe even cathartic) discussion. Its one of the first times I have felt like I could really do this homeschool adventure thing.
6) Turtle Island String Quartet
My friend Kara introduced me to them, and now their Pandora Station runs nonstop in my house.
What are you loving this month?
Thanks to Camille for hosting this link up!
